Description: PENNSYLVANIA GERMAN CHIP-CARVED NIDDY-NODDY (YARN WINDER) - CIRCA 1830 This Early to Mid-19th Century Pennsylvania German Chip-Carved and Painted Wood Niddy-Noddy measures 16.5" x Width: 11.5". ( A complete revolution of wound yarn = 36") It was Hand-Carved in Pennsylvania or the New England Area. It has beautiful, intricately patterned chip carving. The wood is very hard, and appears to be walnut. Decorative Niddy-Noddies are rare and this particular one is one of the nicest that I've ever seen. This Niddy-Noddy is in very good condition, with absolutely lovely wear from hands and yarn sliding over it for almost 200 years! It has a small area of ancient worm damage (see photo); this is very, very old as you can see from the beautiful wear and polish over the top. The wood is very strong in this area and across the entire noddy noddy. Joints are also rock solid. It is approximately 195 years old, and a rare beauty. Will be packed well and shipped USPS Priority.
