Description: pre-WWI Era French Army Mle 1886/35 Lebel Rifle Bayonet w/Scabbard - Modified 2nd Pattern w/Cut-Down Short Blade & Later Flat Release Button - Original - Excellent Condition Up for sale is a pre-WWI Era French Army Mle 1886/35 Lebel Rifle Bayonet with Scabbard. The bayonet and scabbard serial numbers do not match. The blade bright, it has some minor finish wear and some small areas of discoloration. This bayonet was an original 2nd pattern long blade bayonet that was modified in 1935, by cutting down the length of the blade and scabbard to meet the new standard. This modified model is referred to as the Mle. 1886/35. The brass metal handles are in very nice condition, some minor scratches and handling marks. Looks like it was polished at some point in time. It has the later design flat release button. The release button works properly. The scabbard is in Very Nice Condition. Blue finish with only very minor wear. Some minor spots of surface pitting and no major dents. A few minor dings in the scabbard. Please see photos for condition and details.
