Description: Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE The front of the softcover book "POWER TO BURN...SMOKE STEAM & CINDERS" is shown in the first attached high resolution photograph. This book was published by Mirror Publishing Company, Altoona, PA (C) in 1976 and provides the history of Blair County citizens supporting the Pennsylvania Rail Road (PRR). My Father, John Vahey, worked for the PRR, Penn Central Transportation Company and the Consolidated Rail Corporation, first as an Electrician in the Altoona, PA Locomotive Car Shops, then as an Industrial Engineer in the Engineering Office, Juniata, PA and the Locomotive and Rail Car Repair Estimating Office at the Samuel Rea Car Shops in Hollidaysburg, PA. He purchased this book in 1976 and kept it with all his other railroad memorabilia. When my Father died in 1999, I received this book and all his other railroad related items. I have retained these railroad memorabilia items for nearly 25 years; however, since my wife and I relocated from Manassas, VA to Fort Myers, FL we no longer have the space to display or indefinitely store all of these PRR and other railroad memorabilia items. Subsequently, I have decided to begin posting these items for sale on eBay as well as other railroad related sites. This book was "Dedicated to the railroad workers of the Middle Division who helped create the greatest railroad system in the world and paved the way for successors who opened up the West in this United States." The book's photograph credits are listed on the inside of the front soft cover along with the identification of the Editor, James M. Shafer as shown in the second attached high resolution photograph. This book commemorates "BLAIR COUNTY'S IRON HORSES" which started with the construction of railroad car shop buildings in Altoona, PA in 1850. A further description of this origination can be found on the first page as shown in the third attached high resolution photograph. In addition to the locomotive information associated with Blair County's Iron Horses, there is also information on "ALONG THE PRR MAINLINE” starting on page 26 as shown in the fourth attached high resolution photograph and "P.R.R. OLDTIMERS" starting on page 74 as shown in the fifth attached high resolution photograph. The rear of the softcover book "POWER TO BURN...SMOKE STEAM & CINDERS" is shown in the sixth attached high resolution photograph. It contains the iconic PRR logo and a picture of an old time caboose. The spine of the softcover book is unlettered as shown in the seventh attached high resolution photograph. This book contains 96 pages of both black and white and color photographs. The book's size is 6 ¾ inches wide, 9 ½ inches high and ¼ inches wide. The book's overall condition is very good. However, there are some minor creases and slight tears on the front soft cover. There are also some slightly curled pages. Note: Photographs are an important part of my description; please review all photographs before purchasing. If my photographs and or description are lacking something of importance, please ask questions prior to purchasing. Thanks!
