Description: This is a framed 7X15 inch Lithograph print, circa 1916, of the Arrangement in Brown and Black: Portrait of Miss Rosa Corder by James Abbot McNeill Whistler. The original artwork was purchased by Richard Albert Canfield of Rhode Island, circa 1902/1903, brought from London and shown in Boston in 1904. On the back it reads: “Rosa Corder By Whistler THE full-length portrait of Rosa Corder. which came to America some thirteen years ago, purchased by Richard Canfield, and is now one of the masterpieces of modern art in the Henry C. Frick collection, is a splendid example of Whistler's rare distinction. It was ordered by Charles Augustus Howell.According toJacque Emile Blance, the French painter, Whistler saw Miss Corder, in this dress, pass a door painted black and was struck by the effect of color. The portrait was done in theearly seventies, and it is fortunate for America that it is now safely placed in one of our great American collections.” Thanks for looking!
