Literature Poland; History Poland; Art This medal has been minted in 1979 to commemorate Józef Ignacy Kraszewski, one of Poland's greatest writers. This medal comes from the atelier of one of the best Polish portrait medalist, Profs. Jozef Stasinski. Józef Ignacy Kraszewski (Warsaw, July 28, 1812 – March 19, 1887, Geneva) was a Polish novelist. av. The portrait of Jozef Ignacy Kraszewski rv. The symbolic residence the inscription in Polish diameter – 115 x 112mm, (ca 4⅜“) weight – 358.00 gr, (12.63 oz) metal – bronze, authentic patina Kraszewski (Krah-SHEFF-ski) he was born in Warsaw, bought in Romanów in his grandmother. He went to schools in Biała Podlaska (1822-1826), Lublin (1826-1827) and Świsłocz (1827-1829, matura exams). At 1829 he studied medicine and literature. From 1859 editor of the "Gazeta Warszawska" ("Warsaw Press"). In 1870 editor of "Tydzień" ("Week"). In 1883 he was arrested in Berlin and charged with collaboration with French military intelligence and he was sentenced to three and a half years of imprisonment in a Magdeburg fortress. He died in Geneva in 1886. Józef Ignacy Kraszewski he was a writer, historian and jornalist, produced more than 200 novels and 150 novellas, short stories and literary pictures. He is best known for his epic series on the history of Poland, comprising twenty-nine novels in seventy-nine parts. In 2003, the first book in the series, Stara Baśń (An Ancient Tale, 1876), was made into a feature film by Jerzy Hoffman. As a novelist on Polish history, Kraszewski is generally regarded as second only to Henryk Sienkiewicz.
