Description: In "free areas" of the Philippines that were not under Japanese control, municipal and provincial governments issued poorly printed local currency. This 10-peso note was issued in Tagbilaran City, which was the capital of the Filipino province of Bohol. These notes were also known as "guerrilla pesos." They were made from salvaged materials such as old paper bags, battery lead, and emulsion paint, resulting in their often deteriorated condition. These notes were illegal under Japanese rule and possession was punishable by public humiliation and death. Still, many Filipinos risked death rather than use the invasion money issued by the Japanese. This is a circulated currency but is in very good condition for its age which dates back to 1942.
