We have for sale two identical old liquor bottles/decanters, which each come with stoppers. We don't know their age, but guess it has to be the early part of the 1900's. There are no markings on the bodies, but underneath they are marked SD144, LIQUOR BOTTLE, SCOTLAND, US, which may suggest they were destined for sale in the USA market place. One bottle also has a number "1" and the second bottle has the number "7" on the bottom. The shape is most unusual - it is effectively octagonal, but not equally so. The bottles / decanters are more bell shaped with an obvious front and back. They are more or less rectangular with rounded ends and with the sides formed by three faces, each angular, two running up the bottle and one running down. The bases are square, although offset to face the mid points of all four sides. It is pressed glass, with a pale tinge of green color to the glass which also dates it as aged. The stopper mirrors the bottle, not completely, but it obviously belongs. It is hollow in design, also pressed glass. The bottles / decanters measure approximately 10-1/2 inches in height including the stoppers, with the maximum depth being about 3-1/2 inches. The base size is 2-1/2 inches square. Each bottle (with stopper) weighs 1 lb., 6-1/2 ounces. The condition of the bottles / decanters is remarkably good, with no chips, cracks or crazing, and no obvious staining internally. There is around the bottom of the base, what at first look appears to be a crack, yet if traced around preferably under magnification it can be seen to encompass the whole of the base in a circle, and is obviously a mark from the manufacturing process. In fact, we have seen other like bottles that have sold in the past with the same mark around the bottom of the base. The stoppers are also in very good condition. This would make a really great addition to any collector of old liquor bottles/decanters.
