Description: This is an exquisitely framed pair of engravings by Gabriel Perelle (1603-1677) and his sons Nicolas Perelle (b.1631) and Adam Perelle (1638-1695). The first is titled “Veiie du Jardin des Tuileries” or View of the Tuileries Garden located in Paris as captured in 1680. The second etching is titled “L’Hopital de St Louis” started by King Henri le Grand and completed in 1670. Both etchings show detailed and charming depictions of gardens of the Baroque period. Engraved plates such as this one were published as part of a large series of views of mostly France: “Veues des belles maisons de France” by the Langlois and Mariette families of publishers from 1650 into the 18th. c. This particular etching was not viewed outside of its sealed frame, so I am unable to specifically date its creation. But I am confident it originates no later than the 18th century. The etching measures approximately 18.5 inches by 16 inches as framed. The framing is modern, and includes a gilt edged matting. This item is antique and sold as is. The item may show wear, fading, scratches, stains , creases, original imperfections and/or other forms of damage. I note some damage to one of the frames as shown in the photo. Examine photos carefully as they are part of the description. Imperfections were factored into pricing. No returns or refunds.
