Description: Thanks for taking a look at my Orville Wright signed check. The check was signed by Orville on September 29, 1930 in downtown Dayton, Ohio and was written out to Ohio State University. Looking on the reverse, the check was subsequently stamped by their football ticket office. This autograph is one of the better Orville signatures I’ve seen on checks or photos. It is not faded, although has some stamped holes from the early bank check process. The check is in good condition, but has a couple thin spots on the reverse. Around the time of this check in 1930, Orville Wright was awarded the first Daniel Guggenheim Medal for his contributions to aeronautics and was honored with an honorary doctorate from Ohio State University. Orville was also involved in other notable activities in 1930, including: Invented a printing press that could print on balsa wood and cut out shapes Designed a cabin biplane that set a record Worked on aerodynamic bodies for automobiles Designed toys and improved their manufacturing Orville Wright was a lifelong member of the board of directors of the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (NACA), which later became NASA. He also served on the board of the Guggenheim Fund, which helped to improve flight safety and develop instrument flying. Feel free to message me with any questions.
