Click images to enlarge Description This is an ORIGINAL flight thermos, as carried on AAF aircraft on long flights. The thermos is the famous "Stanley Super Vac" brand unbreakable metal thermos. I purchased this thermos from Dauntless Aviation back in 1992. Unlike other AAF thermos I've had over the years, it does not have the usual nomenclature engraved on the side, but it is unlike any civilian vintage thermoses I've seen online. The thermos can hold either hot or cold beverages, such as water or coffee. The capacity of thermos must be one-half gallon, since the thermos is 15" tall and 4.5" in diameter. It also has a cork which is stamped "2-Qt.", which is a half gallon. The thermos is in VERY GOOD condition with some black chipped paint and should be completely functional, although no liquid "wet" testing was done. All parts are present, including the stopper and screw cap, which has a crack in it near the cup handles. Here's an opportunity for the advanced AAF/USAF collector to obtain a rare piece of flight gear. The thermos could also be used in re-enactments in a period camp, as I used to do.
