Description: Fine original painting by Henry Lewis (1915 - 1958).Painting depicts a forlorn seated woman with umbrella in watercolor on paper.I'd guess she was in a red mood until needing an umbrella to go out in those red britches. Very cool, very fun painting. Perfect for a rainy Portland dayPainting measures 18" by 14" and overall measurements are 22 1/2" by 18".Unframed.Entitled lower left on the matt: RED "BRITCHES" and signed by the artist lower right on the matt: H. LEWIS.Not dated but circa 1950.Good condition.According to Allen and Klevit's "Oregon Painters" Henry Lewis studied commercial art in Chicago before moving to Oregon and studying with McCosh, Wilkinson, and Vincent at U of Oregon. He taught for many years at Parkrose High School and exhibited at Portland and Seattle Art Museums. Note he died at age 43, wow.An underrated painter here in Oregon and a brilliant colorist who never wasted a stroke. Everything is relevant.
