These Ho Chi Minh tire sandals were taken from a Viet Cong male combatant. I have listed another pair of Ho Chi Minh tire sandals taken from a Viet Cong female combatant. Tire sandals have a rich history, originating in 1947 during the struggle against French colonization. They were crafted from military tires to give Vietnamese soldiers a practical option during tough times. Both male and female PNLF (People’s National Liberation Front) fighters wore them. Ho Chi Minh wore these sandals everywhere, from battlefields to political discussions, until he passed away in 1969. The French named them after him, and they became a favorite among the Vietnamese military for their durability and ease of use.
