Description: Free shipping anywhere in the United States The Totonacs were one of several cultures that existed in the Gulf Coast of Mexico. They occupied the north-center of the state of Veracruz. Said to have a population of 250,000+ people, they thrived from the Classic and Postclassic pre-Columbian periods. During this time, the production of solid clay figurines evolved on an impressive scale. A high percentage of their artifacts were made of sand-colored clay with attention to anatomic realism. This bird whistle is a splendid representation of this culture. The oval-shaped figurine is graciously carved to depict its tail and wings, further beautified with four round pellets around its body . The head serves as the mouthpiece for the whistle. This is an original piece, and a great representation of the Totonac / Veracruz culture.
