KORAN - OIL OF ACADEMIC PAINTER MATHAUSER" Original paper tag indicates that this work is most likely work of famous czech painter Josef Mathauser (1846-1917). He is well-known mainly as a painter of portraits and works with religious themes. Among his most famous works are "Slave Market" and "Libusin Soud". He worked on the decoration of the Catholic Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in Marianske Lazne. At the end of the 19th century, he participated in the repainting of religious scenes on Svata Hora near Pribram. In 1900, he restored church paintings in Nove Benatky, among them the painting of Mary Magdalene by Karel Skreta. This portrait looks to be from the end of 19th century or begging of 20th century.
