ORIGINAL 1959 Topps BOB (Roberto) CLEMENTE # 478 Baseball Card PSA 8 (OC) READ!

Description: Hi! PLEASE READ THIS CAREFULLY AND IN ITS ENTIRETY (I get paid by the word. Don't I wish!) My two favorite baseball players growing up were WILLIE MAYS and ROBERTO CLEMENTE. When I was in my last two years of college, I began dating a woman from Pittsburgh. Since I lived in New York City, I would fly up to see her several times a year. The student airline fare from New York to Pittsburgh in 1969 was $24 ROUND TRIP! For real. When I was there, I went with her to several Pitrates home games in Forbes Field, which no longer exists. Anyway, in one of those trips to Forbes field, Clemente hit into a doble play late in the game and even though he had gone three for four, a fair number of fans booed him since he had cut short a rally. There was one other game the next year, they booed him again. I was shocked then, but I shouldn't have been. You know what I mean. Although my main source of collecting baseball cards was Willie Mays, over the years I have picked up many cards of the great Clemente. I now own FIVE of his 1959 Topps card. This is by far the nicest one. (My four children will inherit the others after I'm gone.) THIS IS GRADED 8 BY PSA. The only serious defect in this card is its centering. Remember, for more than 40 years, Topps was selling bubble gum. Quality control of their cards was, well, let's call it an afterthought. The gloss is excellent. No creases or scratches. No gum stains. This is a BEAUTIFUL CARD. I hope the person who buys it will enjoy it as much as I have. I plan to sell only about 10 of my more than 90 Clemente cards over the next several years because I have to earn a living. This is NOT my hobby. Like every Buy It Now I have had on eBay the past 24 years, I have priced this to sell. That means there is no discount. The price is the price. And the price is just $988.
