Description: Stunning antique engraved map in original hand color titled Macedonia et Thracia, antequam Romanæ ditionis fuerunt; cura et studio D. Macpherson, with topography drawn in relief and place names from classical antiquity. The image area measures 24.2 x 40 cm [9½" x 15¾"], and there are two distance scales in the upper center, calibrated in Stadia Olympica and Stadia Pythica. The map shows Macedonia and Thrace in southeastern Europe before they were under Roman rule, an area bounded by the Balkan Mountains to the north, the Aegean Sea to the south, and the Black Sea to the east, comprising present-day southeastern Bulgaria, northern Greece, and the European part of Turkey. The map was compiled by David Macpherson and published in Philadelphia by Samuel F. Bradford and Murray, Fairman & Company in the Geographiæ Antiquæ atlas to accompany Abraham Rees' Cyclopædia, or Universal Dictionary of Arts, Sciences, and Literature, 1824. Condition: This map is in excellent condition, bright, crisp, and clean, with no marks, rips, or tears. It is blank on the back, with no printing on the reverse side. Please see the scans and feel free to ask any questions. This is an original, authentic antique map, not a reproduction or modern reprint, and it is fully guaranteed to be genuine. The heading in the upper margin is Geographiæ Antiquæ Tab. VI. Buy with confidence!
