Description: >Offered here is an old and original 1984 AMERICA'S CUP poster-print, professionally framed under glass!! Please see all five photos, as they are an important part of my description. Found at a local estate, this vintage yachting memorabilia was found professionally framed under glass in a bright red metal frame. The frame measures 36" x 24". This poster-print was produced in May, 1984 (so says the "fine print" along the print's bottom edge; please see final pic), and says: "1984 Return America's Cup, P.O. Box 2002, Newport Beach, CA 92663, First Printing, May, 1984". The poster was produced after the Dennis Connor-led 1983 America's Cup loss to Australia, the first American loss in 132 years which ended both the longest winning streak in sporting history as well as the U.S. domination in the series. <>Please note that the "fine print" states "Return America's Cup", which looked forward to the yacht race "rematch" versus Australia in the 1987 America's Cup and returning the America's Cup trophy back to the U.S.A. In that 1987 rematch, Connor's American challenger Stars & Stripes 87 (San Diego Yacht Club) beat the Australian defending champion Kookaburra III, sailed by Iain Murray (Royal Perth Yacht Club), in a four-race sweep in the best of seven series. Connor's redemption was now complete, thus becoming the first person both to lose the America's Cup and then to win it back! The print's slogan "Don't Leave Perth Without It", was a reference to the '87 race's location in Fremantle, Western Australia and their defending club, The Royal Perth Yacht Club. The print's slogan was also controversial, as it was similar to American Express's advertising slogan. Both the 1983 and 1987 America's Cup races captivated most of the country, with Dennis Connor even making the cover of Sports Illustrated, a rare recognition for a sailor! <>Condition: this vintage yacht racing poster appears to be in very *Fine Shape* overall...nice!!! The red metal frame exhibits a few minor nicks/scratches...but nothing major. The frame's backing is thick white poster-board, and do not know how the framer originally adhered the print (it may simply be "loose").
