Description: Orientations Vol. 5 No. 11, November 1974 Beautiful early issue of this leading magazine on Asian Art. In the early years of this publication it had a broader scope and did not focus on high art as it had been doing later. While beautifully illustrated articles on art are to be found (Extensive overview of Chinese bronzes in Honolulu, Stamford Raffles illustrations of Mughal India ...) there are also articles on locations (Philippines, Singapore), history (Marco Polo) and even current affairs (Burma). The geographical scope is also wider with a major article on the Art of Melanesia. THE SCENE COUNTRY REPORT 3 The Last Aria, by Arielle Emmett GO EAST5 New Directions in the Philippines, by S.B. Orientations is a monthly print magazine published in Hong Kong and distributed worldwide since 1969. It is an authoritative source of information on the many and varied aspects of the arts of East and Southeast Asia, the Himalayas, the Indian subcontinent, and the Middle East, from the latest scholarly research to market analysis and current news and is an essential addition to any art library. In addition to feature articles by leading experts, each issue includes sections on Object of the Month, books reviews, recent exhibitions, announcements, and beautifully illustrated dealers' advertisements. This appears to be a scarce issue. I cannot find other copies offered for sale on eBay, Amazon, or specialized dealers sites. Check out my other listings for additional issues of Orientations and other works on Asian and other regions of world art and culture for additional rare finds.
