One Large, Red Lava Rock – Perfect for Terrariums, Aquariums, Succulents

Spokesmodel Woody says this is a pretty cool rock, with lots of "flow" in its shape! As you can see in the photos, it's primarily red / reddish-brown, measures roughly 7" across its longest axis and stands nearly9" tall with the help of a prop. In the right setting, it would make an incredible lava pillar or tower! You'll see a few cracks and crevices, some small holes and depressions, and pockmarks in a variety of shapes and sizes. Also known as "scoria" or "cinder", it was hand-picked directly from the Springerville Volcanic Field, near the White Mountains of east-central Arizona. Those pockmarks are one of the most recognizable features of scoria. When these rocks were expelled from the volcanoes that were active here between 300,000-1.5 million years ago, hot gases were captured within the molten rock. As it cooled, the gas was trapped, leaving thousands of tiny "pores" within the rock itself. The red color resulted from its iron oxidizing during eruption.
