Description: Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE Once the Unholy Grail of the entire NURSE WITH WOUND discography, later made available to the public for a brief time, now out of print, here we have a CD copy of Drunk With the Old Man of the Mountains, first released in an edition of one hundred unique vinyl copies in 1987 on NWW's United Dairies label, finally reissued in 2005 on the Jnana label. As Head Nurse Steven Stapleton recalls: "I'd finished the album, and I was so pissed off with minimal sales... I just thought 'Fuck it, I'm only doing a hundred, but I'll do them all a little bit special' – so they're all different." Each cover came with an original painting. ("By the time I'd finished it I was intoxicated by spray lacquer!") This album may well have consisted of odds and ends from different sessions (one track would appear on a split 12-inch with Current 93, two others were bonus tracks on NWW CDs) but here everything hangs together beautifully. No surprises, other than having no earthly idea what will happen next -- that's what Nurse With Wound is all about! "Mourning Smile" is a relatively brief (just over five minutes) distillation of Steven Stapleton's unique ability to mix disparate elements (ghostly drone with ragtime piano and pipe organ) into a disorienting collage that keeps a close listener on his toes. "Swamp Rat" is a long exploration of drones working over a Neu! Motorik beat. "Sheela-Na-Gig" recalls some of the Penderecki music that was used as the score to The Shining. Broadly cinematic and avante-garde, Drunk with the Old Man of the Mountains resists easy categorization, except as a NWW release. It certainly couldn't have been made by anyone else! This CD is near mint. Track list Mourning Smile Swamp Rat Sheela-Na-Gig Astral Dustbin Dirge Shattering Man Falling
