Description: A Way of Happening by Ruth Herschberger 1948 signed and inscribed first edition, Pellegrini and Cudahy (New York), 5 3/4 x 8 3/4 inches tall hardcover in publisher's unclipped dust jacket, orange paper-covered boards over green cloth spine, black lettering to spine, 56 pp. Very slight soiling, rubbing and edgewear to covers, with paper residue to the lower front and rear boards. Light line of dampstaining to the first few pages of the book - from the title page through the first page of text. On the blank front free-endpaper, nicely inscribed by the author to the prior owner, Murdo J. MacLeod (b. 1935), a Scottish historian of Latin America, who published extensively on the history of colonial-era Central America, the Caribbean, and the Atlantic world. Otherwise, a clean and unmarked copy in a severely chipped and edgeworn dust jacket which is nicely preserved and displayed in a clear archival Brodart sleeve. Ruth Herschberger (1917-2014) was a poet as well as the author of Adam’s Rib (1948), a book of feminist essays with such titles as 'How to Tell a Woman from a Man' and 'Society Writes Biology.' Hershberger’s poetry collections include this 1948 issue and Nature and Love Poems (1969). Her work was published in numerous magazines and anthologies, including The Oxford Book of American Poetry (2006).
