Stihl offers different pitches/guages/lengths on any given model saw, so please know what you need for your specific saw and application before purchasing. If you don't know hot to identify your current bar/configuration, please read the following: Pitch: If you have an OEM Stihl bar, towards the back of the bar (by the powerhead), the pitch will be laser-etched/stamped into the bar (i.e. 1/4, 3/8, 3/8P or 3/8Picco, .325, .404). You can also look at the side of the drive sprocket on the powerhead; it will be stamped with the pitch. Gauge: If you have an OEM Stihl bar, towards the back of the bar (by the powerhead), the gauge will be laser-etched/stamped into the bar (i.e. 0.043 or 1.1mm, 0.050 or 1.3mm, 0.058 or 1.5mm, 0.063 or 1.6mm). You can also measure the width of the drive links found on your current chain to determine. A badly worn chain will typically measure several thousands narrower than when new (i.e. a 0.050" gauge chain may measure as narrow as 0.045" when worn). Drive Link Count: The drive links on a chain - found on the inside of the chain; opposite the cutters, which are on the outside of the chain - are what the sprocket (on the powerhead) come in contact with to rotate the chain. They are also the portion of the chain that rides inside the guide bar rails. To determine the drive link count you need, simply count the number of drive links found on your current chain. OEM Stihl bars also have the drive link count (DL) laser-etched/stamped in the bar. Mounting Style: On the rear of the guide bar (opposite the nose), where the bar mounts to the powerhead, Stihl sells two basic versions - an open-back, and a closed-back. Open-back bars are typically used on smaller home-owner and climbing/in-tree saws. Closed-back bars are typically found on larger home-owner and professional saws.
