Norwegian Tinn-Per Pewter Keychain Fob Souvenir 1994 Lillehammer Winter Olympics

Description: There once was an adventurous Alaskan lady who was a real globetrotter. But for all her traveling & all the places she visited, her real soft spot was Norway. Boy was she keen on that place & oh, how she shopped! When she made her final voyage & headed off to Valhalla, or one of the other nine realms or wherever, she left behind a whole ‘lotta Norway… & now we have it. This is just one item from a portion of her collection that we will be listing, to move on to the loving hands of those who also adore Norway, Norwegian culture & most especially, their Trolls. Back in 1988 the town of Lillehammer, Norway beat out our fair city of Anchorage for the 1994 winter Olympics bid. Many people were dubious of this decision, because the wee burg of Lillehammer (at that time only 23,000) which boasted of its “village atmosphere” was thought to be too small for this endeavor. Despite the haters, Lillehammer smashed it. Of course they did. As a result of the games, Håkon and Kristin were born. The two cheeky little children, dressed in Viking attire, are the official mascots of the 1994 Winter Olympics. The vision for these mascots was to represent the children of today, expressing interests and visions of youth as environmental awareness. As a nod to their Norwegian cultural heritage, they wear traditional medieval clothing characteristic of Norway’s ancient peoples. Own a piece of history (or a piece of Norway!) with this keychain fob crafted by the renowned Norwegian metalsmith company Tinn-Per. (They make really amazing stuff!) I believe they are handmade, but I cannot read their website because it's in Norwegian. (Other parts of the internet say they are handmade though.) These pewter kids were once the fob to a keychain, but somewhere along the line, the chain & clasp got away from them. They are quite heavy, but I suppose you could also thread them with a leather thong or heavy chain & use them as a pendant if that's your thing.
