Description: Offered for sale is a beautiful antique glass JELLY COMPOTE made by Northwood. It has the PAGODA pattern (aka Chrysanthemum Sprig) which dates to 1899. This example is decorated with cold-painted goofus gold on the swags and floral details, but the paint is mostly worn away. It has six-sided shape, and a ruffled scallop edge. It does not have a Northwood N mark. The opaque custard color is thin, and fades to translucent on the foot of the compote (see pictures). It glows intensely with an apple-green fluorescence under UV light. This compote measures 4 1/4 inches (10.8cm) in diameter, and stands 4 3/4 inches (12.1cm) tall at the rim. A U.S. quarter is shown in the first two pictures, to give an accurate impression of the size at a glance. The compote has no cracks or scratches in the glass. The gold decoration is mostly worn away. There is a small opaque inclusion in the stem (picture 5) and a crease in the glass in the interior of the bowl (picture 6) that has turned dark with time. It is not a crack, but a crease in the glass from when the piece was made. The mold seam around the edge of the foot has slight roughness/tiny edge chips (picture 7). They are more easily felt than seen, which is why I had to take a backlit photo to show the roughness. All my items are from a SMOKE FREE home. Check for other fine antique items I have to offer this week, including more Northwood custard glass! I pack all items in sturdy cartons with plenty of cushioning. My shipping time is a HIGH estimate -- I can usually ship faster than the estimated time. I am happy to combine shipping to save on postage IF doing so will not risk breakage of fragile items.
