Description: In Stock and Ready for Immediate Shipment! SOLD OUT at the Mint! A rock wallaby is like a kangaroo, only smaller and cuter! This latest release in the Australia At Night Program of Black Proofs features the Rock Wallaby, struck in one troy ounce of pure silver, with a proprietary black treatment to simulate its dark, nocturnal world! Talisman Coins is thrilled to bring you the Rock Wallaby, ninth release in the ever-popular Australia at Night series that explores Australia’s nocturnal wildlife! These elusive creatures are called "marsupial gymnasts" because of their ability to safely navigate steep, rocky terrain in the most remote hinterlands of the Island Continent. This charming scene depicts a mother rock wallaby with her little joey foraging under the light of a full moon in their native outback habitat. The cliffs and rocky outcrops, along with the sparse vegetation, are rendered in meticulous detail, as are the wallabies themselves. Struck in one full troy ounce of pure silver, with a proprietary, velvety black finish that simulates the nighttime, the Rock Wallaby Black Proof is limited to just 1,000 exemplars worldwide. Rock Wallabies Ninth in the popular Australia at Night series, this coin is a tribute to the little-seen Rock Wallaby. Smaller and cuter than kangaroos, Rock Wallabies are native to Australia and are completely nocturnal. They make their homes in steep, rocky, complex terrain, holing up during the day in a shelter, such as a cave, overhang or dense vegetation. At night they come out into the surrounding countryside to feed. Known as Australia's "marsupial gymnasts", these endearing critters occupy the ecological niche inhabited by goats and mountain sheep on other continents. Unfortunately, feral goats, introduced by Europeans, are able to out-compete the hapless rock wallaby and destroy its fragile habitat. Non-native red foxes also represent a challenge, as they prey on young rock wallabies. These adorable Aussie natives inhabit the remoteness the Australia's Great Dividing Range, from southwest Queensland to Victoria’s Grampians Mountains. Obverse A mother rock wallaby and her little joey forage under the light of a full moon in their native, rocky terrain. The scene sports a proprietary black treatment to simulate the nighttime. It is one of the largest coral islands in the world, with a total area of 260 square kilometers. Niueans are predominantly Polynesian; most are bilingual, speaking both Niuean and English.
