Description: Early Original Antique Tintype Post Mortem Photo of Young Woman, Taken c.1860 DESCRIPTION: Nice early antique ambrotype image taken during the antebellum days prior to the Civil War. Very clear image. Very alone looking, sad young mother holding her deceased baby for one last time. Very moving. She is all dressed up in her formal best shawl and finery, quite appropriate for this solemn occasion. This has great, mid-1800's subject matter. It was a popular way of the day to provide a remembrance of children who were such common victims of disease and death. Mounted in an early plate brass mat, set in a complete leather case, TYPICAL OF THE PERIOD. Nice seated antebellum pose and appearance. . Tintype has a couple of physical marks, but the emulsion is perfect. THIS IS A VERY INTERESTING, EARLY TINTYPE. VERY UNUSUAL. Please see my auction list for other framed antique photos, both ambrotypes and daguerreotypes, many identified and many in gorgeous fancy frames!! PLEASE SEE ATTACHED PHOTOS!!!
