This set includes four commemorative patches and 1 Launch Day Limited Edition Commemorative Postal Cover1. LAUNCH AMERICA "SMARTPHONE PATCH" Version 1 In response to the ongoing pandemic, NASA requested that people not come to Florida and instead watch online, so the patch resembles the view of the launch as seen on a smartphone watching NASA TV. To illustrate “social distancing,” the view is from my town of Titusville without the crowds along the Indian River. I added the banner headline with the secondary subtitle explaining the special significance of this launch and time. This first edition was limited to 250.2. LAUNCH AMERICA "SMARTPHONE PATCH" Version 2.0I added a new banner headline with the secondary subtitle explaining the special significance of this launch and time. The date and time of launch are included to resemble a smartphone lock screen. The design was created by artist Tim Gagnon and by Dr. Jorge Cartes of Madrid, Spain. Since he is helping to home-school them during this pandemic shutdown, Tim also consulted with his grandsons. 3. LAUNCH AMERICA VIRTUAL NASA SOCIAL COMMEMORATIVE PATCHNASA was unable to host an in person social event so they invited participants around the world to join in celebrating LAUNCH AMERICA and the return to U.S. crew launches from “America’s Space Coast.”The patch illustrates the launch of the Falcon 9 and Crew Dragon from iconic Launch Complex 39A at the Kennedy Space Center. The same pad that launched the first crew to fly an Apollo Saturn V and the Space Shuttle. The patch is the same size as the social badge and includes the date of launch 30 MAY 2020.4. CAPTURE THE FLAG - MISSION ACCOMPLISHED COMMEMORATIVE PATCHIn 2011 the STS-135 crew left a U.S. Flag on board the ISS with a challenge to the next crew launched from the United States to retrieve it and return it to Earth. In 2020 astronauts launched from KSC for the first time since 2011. This patch celebrates the NASA/SpaceX DM-2 Crew Dragon flight to the ISS and "Capturing the Flag". The Crew Dragon DM-2 crew accomplishing this and splashing down in the Gulf of Mexico on August 2, 2020.5. LAUNCH DAY POSTAL COVER A couple of weeks before launch I found some blank envelopes that matched the size of old postal covers I have in my collection. I created a graphic of the launch and had it printed on the envelopes. Then a few days before launch I arranged with my postmaster to have them canceled on launch day.
