Description: Offered by Over The Blue Horizon and recently obtained in Tokyo is a crisp copy of a superb pictorial: “MECHANIC OF WORLD AIRCRAFT, VOL 3”, featuring two Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) aircraft: the NAKAJIMA C6N SAIUN RECONNAISSANCE AIRCRAFT (MYRT); and the AICHI E13A JAKE RECONNAISSANCE AIRCRAFT. The MECHANIC OF WORLD series was printed in the early 1990s, and is still highly sought after today. Most of the books covered multiple aircraft, and they although text was in Japanese, these well-illustrated reference works offered exceptionally well-done line drawings, period photographs, and profiles, all with a focus on the mechanical aspects of the aircraft – absolutely perfect for the serious aviation historian and advanced modeler. The NAKAJIMA C6N MYRT was an advanced, late-war carrier-based reconnaissance aircraft -- the fastest aircraft put into service by Japan during the war. It was designed around a long and extremely narrow cylindrical fuselage, just large enough in diameter to accommodate the engine. The crew of three sat in tandem under a single canopy, while equipment was similarly arranged in a line along the fuselage. Like NAKAJIMA's earlier B6N TENZAN torpedo bomber, the rudder was angled slightly forward to enable tighter packing on aircraft carriers. High landing speed from the small wing area was alleviated with hydraulic slats and Fowler flaps. It entered operational service in September 1944, and because there were few aircraft carriers left for it to operate from, most were used from land bases as a reconnaissance aircraft, night fighter, and eventually as a kamikaze. The second aircraft covered in this book is the AICHI E13A JAKE, a long-range reconnaissance seaplane used from 1941 to 1945 and numerically the most important seaplane of the Japanese Navy. It saw service throughout the conflict for coastal patrols, strikes against navigation, liaison, officer transports, castaway rescues, and other missions. These two IJN reconnaissance aircraft enjoys significant coverage in this 162 page, 7.5 x 10.5 inch hardcover with dustjacket that was published in 1993. Condition is GOOD+ bordering on VERY GOOD – the dustjacket shows light shelf wear but otherwise, this book is TIGHT, BRIGHT, and very CLEAN.
