Description: Print of the Pont Neuf and the Seine River in central Paris, Notre Dame visible in the far distance, printed in primarily grays, black and white with some subtle yellows in the trees and green and orange in the clothing of the figures perusing the bookstalls, 11" by 13" inside the mat, 19" by 20" in silvery gray frame, pencil signed at lower right margin by the noted Austrian artist HANS FIGURA (1898-1978). Figura is known for his aquatints on paper and silk, featuring scenes of the Tyrolean Alps, Venice, other European locales, and even New York and elsewhere in the United States. He was prolific. The inscrutable signature has I believe hindered his receiving wider recognition for his quality work. This example is in excellent condition. Photos appear fuzzy due to the fact that they were taken through the old-fashioned non-glare type glass, which blocks detail. I suggest that it be discarded. An old circa late 1960's or early 1970's label from Ernst Geissendorfer, a gallery or framer in Rothenburg, Germany, remains affixed to the backing.
