O David Bowers has been collecting, dealing in, researching, and writing about US coin since the 1950's. His decades of experience and study make this 1993 book a tremendous reference. He does a date by date description of each of these series of US Silver Dollars. He also tells what was happening in each year, both in the US mints, and in the rest of the world. The result is a very readable and interesting history of American numismatics. He reports official mintage figures of each year, and his insight on how many of each coin was minted, as well as a reasoned estimate of how many survive today. He breaks this survival estimates down into grades from good to proof.Now, even 25 plus years later, this book is still the standard reference for these series of US Dollars. I recently acquired a hardcover copy of this book for my own library, and have decided to sell this extra softcover copy I've had for a few years to free up some shelf pace.
