Description: the ki600 rotary snow plow series was copied from an american produced - arco co - rotary plow purchased in 1923 by the japanese railway ministry.....16 clones were produced between 1923 and 1940 primarily by the in house "naeho" factory; 5 additional plows were constructed in the early post world war 2 period by kisha seizo......ki620 was built in 1948 and assigned to the iwamizawa district near sapparo in hokkaido.....obsolescence for the ki 600 series was 1974....... i acquired this ki620 as part of a 2 vehicle acquisition from a reseller in Japan who specializes in transportation memorabilia; when selling multiple items sets, the provider usually groups one superlative model with a less desirable one.........in this 2 more 2801 set, this model was the latter ............upon arrival, inspection revealed a shell which, while undamaged, displayed a few minor discolorations and smudges which proved impervious to "googone: treatment .......the wheel sets displayed clearly a patina of oxidation which I treated with mineral spirits.....the snow plow, which has no traction tires by design and did not operate independently of steam locomotive power in actuality, performed inconsistently on the initial test run; to ameliorate performance, I decided to replace the currently carrying wheel sets for which kato 11-605s are a drop in successor......however, the front 11-605 was interfering with the smooth functioning of the rotating gear which drives the snow thrower - a slight difference in the retention pin geometry was repositioning the currently transmitting copper blades into the path of the gear.......i reinserted the one original wheel set into that lead position....I proceeded once again to the test run where the model now performed at n scale factored running speeds of 28% on the rheostat with an typical electric motor sound of n scale design of the mid 1980s and smooth and consistent performance........when paired with a smoothly functioning locomotive, the tandem should achieve the n scale target at 25 to 30 percent on the transformer...... the exterior paperboard packaging of the ki620 is only somewhat degraded..........the molded styrofoam inner packaging tray is unsullied and serviceable......given the probable release date of the more 2801 (circa 1985), the overall condition of the plow despite the few smudges is remarkable.........I have adjusted the selling price slightly to reflect the few blemishes.... .........the model has no accessories.....
