She first played roles as the “girl next door” but later grew out of the mold to take on more sophisticated roles.Freeman landed her first role as a 15-year-old in France during WWII in the 1944 film Till We Meet Again. She later broadened her acting resume to include the films Junior Miss, Dear Wife, Dear Brat, Streets of Laredo, The Heiress, Copper Canyon, Jumping Jacks and Battle Cry. She also toured with Edward G. Robinson in a 1958 production of Middle of the Night, a play by Paddy Chayefsky.In addition to her work in movies, Freeman appeared in TV shows including The United States Steel Hour, Playhouse 90, Maverick, Perry Mason, Checkmate and The Millionaire.Born Monica Elizabeth Freeman, the actress was born in Baltimore but raised in Pelham, New York. She modeled in New York as a teenager to help put her brother through Yale. She was named “Miss Subways” in May 1941.When she was not acting, Freeman enjoyed painting portraits, including one of Mary See that is displayed in the candy chain’s stores.Freeman died on May 23, 2014, in Beverly Hills, California.
