Description: "Modellflug-Sport ein Leitfaden Fur Die Jugend" (according to Google Translate "Model Aircraft Sport: A Guide for Youth") by Dr. W. Dollfus and A. Degen. 1942 Aero-Verlag, Zurich. Assumed first edition (according to previous booksellers notations). 148 pages with 147 drawings and 46 black and white photos throughout. Hardcover with no dust jacket. According to the tipped in page, which is right after the copyright page, this is one of a numbered limited edition of 300 with better paper and with the signatures of the two authors. The authors did sign the book on this page, using it appears a fountain pen with black ink. The unique number of this book is 63, which appears to have been typed into a lined field on the signature page. The book is about the model aircraft hobby, and is written to interest youth in building model planes, flying them, and competing in groups. In the introduction, the hobby of model aircrafts is said to be a patriotic duty of the youth. Note this was written in the middle of World War II in a neutral European country surrounded by Nazi Germany. Given the topic, the timing of the book, the upgraded paper used, and the limited, numbered, and signed edition, this is likely one of the most interesting books on model planes available, collectible as a hobby book, a wartime publication, and a part of aviation history. There was also a version of this book written in French copyright 1943, one year after this one. A copy is available currently on eBay at: https://www.ebay.com/itm/114769633671 Laid in is an index card with a personal note to a former owner. The former owner was a well known model builder in the Chicago suburbs. This book was found at his estate sale. Note also the inked stamp on the bottom of the title page. The stamp reads: "Nr. 6442 BRB 3. 10. 1939". The end of that certainly looks like a date, but it's a date that precedes the copyright date of the book by 3 years. I do not know what this stamp is trying to tell us. Photos are from the actual book on offer. See the photos for additional insight into content and condition of this wartime book on model planes from Switzerland.
