Description: Some wear on the back of the pendant (see photos) 1940s 50s Jean Baptiste Pericles Haiti handmade metal modernist statement pendant on chain necklace - pendant measures 3.5" and hangs on original handmade brass metal 28" chain! Pericles is probably one of the better known jewelry artist/designers from Haiti from the mid 20th century, having apprenticed with Winifred Mason of Chenet d'Haiti who also trained American jewelry designer/craftsman Art Smith of NYC in his early days. After leaving Chenet d'Haiti, Pericles opened his own business making extraordinary jewelry most often in mixed metals into at least the 1970s. Apparently Pericles made many of his tools himself that were intentionally made for specific tasks that he employed in making his unique jewelry creations!
