Description: Intriguing mid century (1959) original modernist folk art painting depicting a coastal marina complete with socks and small boats in the water. The marina has a sign above it that reads “Caruis Marina”. Signed by the artist in the bottom right corner and dated August of 1959. Usually we do well deciphering signatures however we can not make this one out or find the artist; it looks to read Bode Gayle? Provenance comes from a collection of art by well listed artist purchased from a New Jersey estate. Quite worthy of further research. Medium is watercolor or perhaps oil on paper done in a folk art style. Protected behind glass, matted with a sea blue mat and framed in a blue wash and gold gesso and wood frame. Backed with brown paper and ready to hang. In Very Good overall condition. Clean and crisp. Frame shows gentle scuffing and chipping to the gesso and painted finish.
