It was released in 2000 as the home counterpart of Windows 2000, despite using the Windows 9x kernel instead of Windows 2000's NT kernel. Plus, Windows ME was the final computer operating system to use the Windows 9x kernel and feature MS-DOS support. For many years, this Windows operating system has been used by various computer users around the world. To this day, it's still used by computer enthusiasts for a variety of retro purposes. It was unique for introducing System Restore, Windows Movie Maker, and more. Although this operating system was designed to bring in new possibilities of home computing for the third millennium, this was technically the final Microsoft computer operating system of the second millennium and the 20th century as both the third millennium and the 21st century did not actually begin until January 2001.As a bonus, this CD-ROM also features the 2000 version of Microsoft Interactive CD Sampler (also considered the last version of it ever made) and several demo/trial versions of PC games, such as Age of Empires II: The Age of Kings, Motocross Madness, and The Magic School Bus Explores the World of Animals.
