Josefina Velazquez de Leon was an entrepreneurial author and teacher who traveled throughout the Mexican Republic holding cooking classes and collecting regional recipes and, in doing so, united Mexican cooking as one cuisine. In 1947, De Leon wrote the bilingual "Mexican Cook Book: Devoted to American Homes. Authentic Recipes from Every Region of the Mexican Republic," the first Mexican cookbook published in the United States, introducing the complexity of traditional Mexican cuisine (not Tex-Mex or Cal-Mex) to an American audience. Rare first edition published in 1947. Regarded as one of the earliest Mexican cookbooks targeted to American home cooks. In good condition for its age. Some chipping around cover edges. Some cosmetic page tanning/discoloration at edges. Several pages in the middle have a cosmetic corner stain/discoloration. Binding is tight, and pages appear clean and unmarked.
