Description: THIS IS NEW FROM THE KITTINGER COLLECTION. Merle and my dad, Ken Kittinger were truly the best of friends. When Pop became ill in his late 90’s, he had to leave his Music Row workshop where he was the premier gold record award man for 50 years and was transferred to the TN Veteran’s Home in Murfreesboro south of Nashville. But for decades he hosted parties for Merle and they spent much time together every time Merle was in town. When he was at the VA Home, they had a pact: Every Friday night Merle wasn’t in concert somewhere, he and Pop would talk on the cell phone – and they did. I visited from Atlanta and often heard their chit-chat which was riddled with jokes not fit for my grandchildren. The night before Pop passed on Saturday morning, January 9th, 2016, they spoke when Merle was also very ill and hospitalized in California. A few months later, Merle joined Pop. Knox Phillips, the son of legendary SUN Records founder Sam Phillips who discovered Elvis, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis and many others – was a great friend to both my dad and Merle. Apparently on one of my father’s many visits to Memphis to see Knox, he gave him a box full of signed SUN Promotional flyers signed by Merle (not copies but hand-signed). I have three storage units of Pop’s 5,000 items left in his estate from his 50 years of collecting everything you can imagine in the music industry, and after selling on eBay for 6 years now, am still going through unopened boxes finding new items. I just came across these photos and will list them until they sell out. I send a simple COA authenticating the provenance of the item from the Kittinger Estate and can personalize it for the recipient, so please message me with the name of the person receiving this. I also send the same COA with no name so any of my father’s awards or other memorabilia will have some form of authenticity if the item changes hands over the years.
