Description: MCM Framed Oil on Canvas Painting Nanene Engle University Evansville Art Department This is an original abstract oil on canvas. It is unsigned but there is a tag on the back that says "Nadine Ingle U.E. Art Dept. This is a misprint. I know it's incorrect because I knew the creator of this work. She was my first employer when I was 15 years old and worked at her family's ice cream/sandwich shop, the Calliope in Newburgh Indiana. I first met Nanene when I was in 7th grade when she came to our art class and taught us how to do batik. I still have the piece I made under her instruction. As I was employed by her, I was also acquainted with the rest of her family and her son is a friend of mine. I also know that there was never a "Nadine Ingle" who taught in the art department at UE, because University of Evansville is my alma mater where my mother was also a professor for 35 years. Nanene did juried exhibitions and shows all over the country and in 2018, our local museum, the Evansville Museum of Art, held a large exhibition of her work. Please see the photos which show examples of some of her beautiful batik creations and paintings. "This exhibition explored the life and work of multi-talented artist Nanene Queen Engle through her paintings, drawings, textiles, and sculpture." Nanene Queen Engle, Newburgh Artist, passed away in her home Friday, December 21, 2007. She was the daughter of Magdalena Abshier Queen and Walter Queen and was born in Evansville, Indiana, on December 10, 1918. She graduated from Bosse High School in 1936. She attended the University of Southern California, where she was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega Sorority. Mrs. Engle attended John Herron Art School in Indianapolis, Indiana, and the University of Evansville, where she received a Bachelor's degree. Mrs. Engle did graduate work at New York University in New York City and received a Master's degree in art from Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. She was on the art faculty of East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina, and Longwood University in Farmville, Virginia. She retired in 1982 as an Associate Professor of Art from the University of Evansville, Evansville, IN. Nanene 1st married Frank Engle on an unknown date and divorced on an unknown date. Second marriage to Leon G. Jacobsen on May 9, 1963 in Pitt Co., North Carolina, divorced in Warrick Co., Indiana in 1976. I didn't know Frank Engle but he is the renowned sculptor of "Engle Studios, Newburgh, IN". I did know Leon Jacobson and about all I remember about him is that he was a fabulous cook. I am also including a photo of a sculpture of Frank Engle's work from an exhibition at the Evansville Museum of Art. This work is framed in a complementary, contemporary silver frame and is in very good condition with no issues. It is 26" x 26". I ship the least expensive way I can get it to you safely. It will definitely be insured. HIGH VALUE & GOOD QUALITY~From a Private Estate Collection~ This fine item is offered with a fair and reasonable fixed price.
