Massive Chelsea Derby Figural Group Flute "Music Lesson" Sevres Taste 18th C.

Description: Chelsea Derby Music Lesson Let me start with the fact that this figure had me totally stumped so I'm going to ramble a bit in my description. It is massive (not readily apparent in photos) weighing 13 lbs and is very similar but not identical to the very important Chelsea "The Music Lesson" c. 1760 in the listing photos. My next thought was Edme Samson however if you look at the underside of base, it is too early for that, and base appears to be Derby. If you look at the Sevres biscuit version in the listing photos of the "Music Lesson" it appears almost identical to this figure with the stump. lamb and dog to the base. In my research, I found one sentence in the Bradshaw Derby Book p. 246 that states "An accurate Derby copy of the Sevres group has recently been identified". Of course there are no photos of this "Derby Copy" to be found anywhere but that would be my best guess as to the identity of this piece. If anyone out there knows differently, please don't hesitate to contact me. Approx. measurement: 13" H X 11" W X 7" D and weighs 13 lbs. A "V 99" incised stamp to base. Provenance: Prominent Private Collection Condition: Nice condition, chips and losses to bocage, stump to right has restoration to end, otherwise minor imperfections to be expected.
