Description: What we have here is a monster reed splitter, used to split saplings into thirds which are then shaped and made into hoops which hold buckets, barrels and butter churns together or other coopered containers. The handle is a tad loose with a little wiggle from side to side. There is also a split at the base of the handle and a much smaller crack about half way up the handle. That being said, this is tool is solid and ready to go to work. I believe the handle is apple wood.
