Description: This is a heritage fig originally from the town of Carini in Sicily, Italy. Background: This fig was brought into US (not illegal at that time) in the early 1960s. The original lady still resides in central New Jersey. There is also a popular local Italian restaurant owned by a gentleman from the same town of Carini. This fig has been shared in a very closed circle of Italian families in central New Jersey over the past 10 years or so. Mariani Carini Green: This fig is named after my friend from whom I received the fig materialsHardy zone: this variety is hardy in zone 6. My first year cuttings were only lightly mulched over winterGrowth habit: moderately spreading, vigorousLeaf shape: mature leaf generally 5 lobed. Early mature leaf can be distinctly deeply lobed. Occasionally 3 lobed. Glossy deep green colorFigs: Breba crop is unknown. Main crop figs are typical "Adriatic" type of figs. It is my friend's favorite even after he acquired several other fig plants. In zone 6A in central New Jersey, fig ripened in beginning of September 2021 from in-ground tree. This fig variety is very similar to Adriatic JH, but appears to be several day earlier than Adriatic JH. The flavor is very intense Adriatic berry. Figs do not split as much as the larger Adriatic figs.I did a comparison of this Mariani Carini vs other "Adriatic" figs such as White Madeira #1, Battagalia Green, JH Adriatic, Lake Spur and Unk Mercedes GEM. Mariani Carini is different from all of them. It is similar to Mercedes GEM and Lake Spur with 5 lobe leaves dominate. This fig has deeply lobed leaves at very early age. It appears this fig fruits earlier than JHA, Lake Spur and Battagalia Green. Need more comparison vs other "Adriatic" figs. Here is the comparison (post #29):https://www.ourfigs.com/forum/figs-home/814709-is-white-madeira-and-adriatic-jh-the-same-figPlant Description: There are multiple plants with this listing.
