Marcel Delgado King Kong Created For Don Post Studios 1968, Info in Description

Description: NOTE; This sale is only for the 20” tall King Kong. Any other items shown in my photos are not included in this sale. Up for Buy it Now or Best offer is what I have been told, is an original Marcel Delgado King Kong that was made for Don Post Studios. At this point I do not have any documentation that would prove that this one is the first one or if he made several. Down at the last paragraph of my description I will have the story about how my late artist Brother acquired this amazing item. I will describe here what I have and some things that might Identify Mr Kong. I will start with the inside skeleton structure. Starting at the heals of his feet. The back of the heals are torn open (see photos) because this big guy over the past 40 plus years has sagged a bit forward on his stand pulling on the foam rubber at the back of his ankles. This exposes the 3/4 inch square wood that supports his legs. The wood for the legs is attached to wood piece that runs across the hip area. For his back bone there (guessing it would be wood) is a piece of wood of unknown size running up his back to the top of his head. The palm of his one hand you can see some sort of steel cable (it is magnetic) that must run through his arms, attached to the backbone some way, then across to the other hand. His arms were bent a bit more than straight up than they should of been, so at the elbows as the foam rubber on the elbow area was stretched a bit and so it has some cracking. I bent them down where they should be and the foam rubber splits fit back together. He stands 20 inches tall and its 25 inches across at the outside edge of his hands. Overall for his age the foam rubber is still mostly soft and there are only some slight cracks in a few places. His heals and elbows are the worst areas in my opinion. I will have photos posted of these areas. The original mold was in two pieces because if you look at Kong closely (I needed magnification) you can find the parting line that runs all around him where the two molds joined together. The original clay statue of Kong was modeled in clay by Marcel Delgado. I am not sure who made the two piece plaster mold. That could of been Marcel Delgado who then could of built the internal support filling the mold with foam rubber or that work was done by Don Post Studios. The person who my late Brother ( artist illustrator G.A. Bush) got this King Kong from says he found it in a back room at Don Post Studios and purchased it from them. He also aquired the mold and made some resin cast Kongs. This person who got the Kong was well known for making molds of high end movie items and then selling the resin castings that he made. Quite a few of the resin Kongs were sold before he was slapped with a cease and desist order for selling a copyrighted item. This prop copier guy was who my late Brother purchased this King Kong from. This Kong originally had hair on it just like the 1933 version. There are still some fine hairs stuck to him in some places. My take on this is that who ever might of made another mold had to remove the hair. Possibly that was done at Don Post Studios if they had to make molds or the resin guy did it so he could make his ? Just a speculation on my part. At this point in time, even after a ton of internet searching, what my Brother told me is all I know. I did find two of the resin copies. One was sold on eBay back in 2017. I found it on a great website that I use for research, WorthPoint. The size and facial features are the same as the one listed here. The one resin copy had thick hair put on it, it did not look that great, but the face, chest, hands and feet were the same down to the toenails. One other I found is a unpainted resin casting that is shown in my photos. I did find one photo of someone standing next to this King Kong, posted above. I believe it is Don Post. Also a photo of Ray Harryhousen standing with Don Post with this Kong in one of my photos. Or should I say that possibly this is the Kong in these photos. I cant say for sure. So what did Don Post Studios want to do with this King Kong replica ? In 1969 their artists scaled up its dimensions and they made several 13 foot tall King Kong statues for several Hollywood museums. Details of this can be found on the internet. If anyone out there knows anything about the King Kong that was made for Don Post studios, PLEASE send me a message here on eBay. Hopefully I can verify the information that someone out there might pass on to me. It would be appreciated 😁 Mr. Kong will be well protected and packaged for shipping. I will be using FedEx insuring it for the sale amount. A signature will be required for delivery. Pleas allow me 3 days for packing. Bush 1953 - 2003 George was well known in the art industry throughout his career spanning from the late 1970's to the late 1990's. There were not a lot of his works sold publicly till now, after his unfortunate passing. Prices on his paintings that did sell to the public through places like Heritage Auctions, eBay and some private galleries, ranged from $750 to $10,000.00 and that was years ago. Around 2001 George was diagnosed with M.S. ( Multiple Sclerosis ). A disease that affects different people in different ways. For George the first sings of something being wrong started with his eyesight. Of all things to be affected first, for him as a professional artist on the top of his career, he told me that he was having spells where his vision started jumping / twitching as he described it. That was in 1995 and ever so slightly it got worse as time went on. He kept on with his artwork till his vision got to the point where it took him months to complete just 1 painting. That was around 1998. His wife was a really good artist so she continued a bit doing paintings for paperback book covers. It was a joint effort as George with several different reading glasses taped together would do some of the higher detailed areas on her paintings like the faces and hands. Slowly George started losing his balance and the strength in his legs, then in his arms. It was so hard to see such a talented Brother just fade away. So sad. 😞 You can find out more about George by doing a search for George A. Bush or George Arthur Bush Artist / ILLUSTRATOR. Unfortunately with a name like his, web searches keep popping up things related to the former president George W. Bush. Even though the middle name is different, you still have to search past the former president items. A List of my Brother George’s lifetime accomplishments as an Artist, illustrator and sculpture. There were posters, calendars, magazine story art, TV Guide covers. He was commissioned by Frank Ferzettas to do a sculpture of Frank that was to be copied and sold in the Frazetta museum. Unfortunately due to Georges failing eyesight it took him 3 years to complete that sculpture that turned out to be his last work of art. Unfortunately the Frazetta family backed out of the deal and my Brother was never paid a penny for all of his work. Yes I have that sculpture.
