Late 20th century restrike of the Congressional Gold Medal awarded in 1814 to Major General Peter B. Porter for his "gallantry and good conduct in the several conflicts of Chippeawa, Niagara and Erie". One of 27 similar medals awarded to U.S. military officers for Army and Naval victories during the War of 1812. Designed by Moritz Furst, America's premire medalist of the early / mid 19th century, the front features a bust of Porter with an alegorical reverse. 2 9/16" 65 mm., same size as the original gold medal.
