Description: Extremely rare early 1920’s original type 1 8”x10 photo of South American heavyweight boxing contender Luis Angel Firpo . 1923 Firpo knocked heavyweight champ Jack Dempsey out of the ring in the 1st round, in todays rules he would have won and been world champion , but Dempsey came back and won. Was deemed the fight of the year in 1923. The famous boxing painting by American artist George Bellows used Firpo as a model for the painting.,In Argentina he’s still a national hero and legend These vintage type 1 photos came from the collection of Len Hollreiser. In the 50s, 60s and 70s Hollreiser used them to help create the art for his daily comic feature This Day in Sports, a daily series of photorealistic historical athlete portraits. More than likely there is a comic done by Hollreiser out there with this famous sports celebrity in it.
