Description: 1536F7E.26 New, Design Tech International, Normally Closed / Momentary Off, Low Voltage Switches. Each bid quantity is for a Lot of Five (5) Switches. You may bid / buy any number of lots, up to the total quantity available above. These were purchased at an industrial liquidation earlier this year, and they are brand new in the original sealed packages. They would be ideal for operating low voltage circuits for vehicle interior lights, under-the-hood lights, trunk lights, alarms, etc. In fact, they would work for most applications where a reliable switch is required, and where the voltage is low enough that there is no shock or explosion hazard. The beauty of these switches is in their simplicity. The chrome plated steel switch body can be mounted in anything metal that is grounded to the vehicle frame. A spring-loaded, non-conductive polymer plunger slides back and forth inside the switch body. A metal sleeve with an integrated 1/4" male spade connector is crimped on the lower end of the polymer plunger, and the force of the spring holds the upper edge of the sleeve securely against the lower end of the switch body. A single wire with a female quick connector terminal is attached to the male spade terminal on the sleeve. When the plunger is depressed, the metal sleeve with the attached wire is forced away from the switch body, thus opening the circuit and stopping the flow of electricity through the switch. When the plunger is released, the circuit closes and electrical flow resumes. The threaded switch body and two mounting nuts provides about 11/16" of adjustment, so you can position the switch to open at the precise point desired. The exact material of the plunger is unknown, but it is slightly flexible and very tough. Although you can bend it slightly sideways with your fingers, the plunger is not at all brittle, and it springs back to its original shape when released. It has about 1/2" of overtravel after the electrical circuit is interrupted, and the plunger head will depress until the underside is flush against the top of the switch body. In other words, it would be hard to break them unless you really try. Someone will undoubtedly ask me about the amperage and voltage rating. Well, the brown wire looks to be about #16 AWG, which works out to around 22A for chassis wiring or 3.7A for power transmission. Naturally, you can replace the little brown wire with something heavier. But at some point, the sleeve with the male terminal will get hot enough to melt the polymer plunger to which it is crimped. Generally speaking, when you see smoke coming from anything electrical, you should reduce the load a few amps. As for the voltage rating, simply soak a volunteer thoroughly with a garden hose and have him grab whatever's connected. Slowly reduce the voltage until his teeth stop chattering and the stuttering subsides. When you can clearly hear him saying, "T-T-T-TURN-N-N-N-N IT-T-T-T-T OF-F-F-F-F!!!" you should be fine as long as you keep the voltage below that. According to the calipers: Overall switch length (excluding wire and female connector): 2.715" Length of wire and female terminal only: 8.250" Overall length of metal switch body: 1.468" Length of body threads: 1.240" Body threads: 5/16-18 (standard National Coarse) Diameter of threads: .308" Length of plunger (above switch body): .625" Diameter of plunger head: .357" Diameter of plunger shaft: .178" Plunger travel: .542" Length of male terminal assembly (including contact sleeve): .651" Male spade terminal length: .415" Male spade terminal width: .257" Male spade terminal thickness: .034" Body hex size (across flats): .426" Body hex size (across corners): .487" Mounting nut size (across flats): .467" Mounting nut size (across corners): .530"
