Description: This listing is for one packet of Apus eggs. The packet you receive will contain eggs for this living fossil. The scientific name is Apus longicaudatus Le Conte. They are found in the western United States deserts. This creatures hatches out in dry land ponds when there is sufficient rain to fill the pond. They have a short life cycle since they must mature and lay eggs before the water in the pond dries up. As you can see by the pictures they are a very unusual creature. Put the packet of eggs in a clean glass jar with room temperature water. Place the jar in a window where it can get sunlight. Don't put it in the direct sunlight in a south facing window or it will get too hot. The hatch should take place within 24 hours but they are so small it will be hard to see. Hold the jar up to the sunlight and you maybe able to see tiny specks moving around in the water. There may be more than one type of creature that will hatch out since there are other things in the pond. The eggs can lay dormant for years until enough rain comes to fill the pond and all the eggs don't hatch each time it rains. Nature has provided well to preserve this species. Since this is a nature item there may be some packets that don't get a hatch. If this happens just contact me and I will send you another packet.
