Description: Linhof SUPER TECHNIKA 23 6cm x 9cm (2¼" x 3¼") camera w/convertible cam-matching 105mm LINHOF Technika Symmar -SUPERB! Manufactured in Germany in the later 1950s or 1960s, this is Linhof's Super Technika 23 medium format camera. It is a precision instrument built to last and is still functioning perfectly 60+ years after being manufactured. If you are familiar with Linhof's beautiful all-metal cameras, then you know how special and versatile they are. They were the Mercedes/Rolls Royce of cameras in their day. The die-cast aluminum body makes the Technikas extremely rugged and because everything folds up into itself (making it very compact), the lens and bellows are protected from dust and damage. The camera has a parallax-correcting multifocus optical rangefinder with masks for different focal length lenses. Three masks which fit over the front of the viewfinder are included with the camera. They are for focal lengths of 53mm, 180mm, and a square mask for 65-105mm lenses. There is also a distance scale next to the eyepiece which tells you the distance the camera is focused at. The 6cm x 9cm (2¼" x 3¼") format camera has a revolving back making it easy to switch from horizontals to verticals and the double extension bed allows for a long bellows to be used for macrophotography or for focusing telephoto lenses. The front standard can also be tilted backwards (see photos). The camera incorporates Linhof's unique quick-change three-cam focusing disc which provides accurate rangefinder focusing with three different focal length lenses: 65mm, 105mm and 180mm. The camera is in beautiful condition with only minor handling marks from use but it is missing three tiny pieces of the tan/grey vulcanite covering material that were glued into the two triangular recessed areas on the bed underneath the lens, and on the release button on the bottom that locks the bed to the camera (see close-up photos). I always meant to cut some pieces of similar looking leather and glue them in but never got around to it; a small project for the new owner. The camera comes equipped with a 105mm f/3.5 Technika Symmar normal lens which was manufactured by Schneider-Kreuznach in Germany. It is bright and clear and in great condition with no scratches fungus or cleaning marks. This is one of Schneider's convertible lenses which has two focal lengths combined into one lens. If you remove the rear elements, the 105mm lens turns into a 180mm lens. Lenses with the Technika logo on them indicate they were hand-selected, tested and approved by Linhof from a large batch of lenses sent to them by Schneider. Not every lens qualified for the high quality standard that Linhof set and thus many lenses were rejected. If you own a lens with Linhof's name on it, you know you have a lens that's a cut above the rest. The shutter speeds (1-1/500th + B) all sound strong and accurate but I can't guarantee their speeds after so many years of non use. The 105mm lens was also precisely calibrated to the three-cam focusing disc which has the lens's serial number engraved underneath the "105mm" engraving. The camera also comes with the optional Linhof anatomical grip which make holding the camera in one hand - safe, reliable and super comfortable. It also contains the proper original Linhof cable release. Also included are two Linhof 6x9 film/plate holders. I can't say enough good things about this camera. It is a marvel of engineering, beautiful to look at and a joy to use. Please use the photos to determine the condition of the camera and see my other listings for the 65mm wide angle Super Angulon lens (with lens board) that fits this camera. Email me if you have any questions (search for "Rob McElroy" and "Buffalo, NY" on Google and you will find me). This includes restrictions on any internet or website display, usage or transfer. SHIPPING:Domestic shipping is via USPS Priority Mail and will be calculated by eBay's shipping calculator to your particular city. The shipping fee also includes postal insurance plus the additional fees imposed by EBay and PayPal on the shipping charges, which amounts to an additional 15% on top of the fees charged by the post office. Shipping discounts are available for multiple purchases shipped to the same address in the same box. International buyers please note: The shipping charges you pay when purchasing this item do not include import duties, taxes, broker's fees, or other charges that may be imposed by government officials or Customs brokers in your country. Please check your country's import regulations if you want to be informed about any additional charges that may be imposed on your package when it arrives. PAYPAL PAYMENT REQUIREMENTS: Visa and MasterCard are accepted through PayPal for domestic purchases. For international purchases, because of PayPal and eBay's very strict rules regarding proof-of-shipment for sellers, if you want to pay for the item using PayPal, and the item sells for less than $750.00, I can only accept a PayPal payment if you are willing to pay for USPS Priority Mail Express International or Priority Mail International shipping. They are the only on-line-trackable shipping methods offered by our US Postal System to international destinations, and an on-line-trackable shipping method is a PayPal and eBay requirement. If the item sells for more than $750.00, then Priority Mail Express International is the ONLY shipping option available because it is the only service that requires a signature upon delivery. PayPal and eBay both require signature confirmation on packages worth more than $750.00. Additionally (for both domestic and international purchasers), if you pay for the item using PayPal, there are two Priority Mail services I cannot offer, their Flat-Rate Envelope and Small Flat-Rate Box. Neither of these two services are trackable (or insurable), and they are therefore against PayPal and eBay's rules. PAYMENT OPTIONS: EBay has made changes to their payment rules whereby (in eBay's own words) "Beginning in late October [2008], sellers will no longer be allowed to offer [any traditional person-to-person paper] payment methods on eBay. Only approved electronic methods will be allowed." As a seller, eBay now prohibits me from even using the words that describe what those traditional paper-transaction payment methods are. EBay strongly encourages all buyers to pay for their items by using PayPal (previously an eBay-owned company). I accept PayPal, and encourage you to use it, but I will not force you to use it. EBay's rules also state "A seller can accept [paper payments] from a buyer if (and only if) the buyer requests it. We will not take action against a seller who is trying to accommodate their buyer, complete a sale and be in compliance with the policy. Sellers cannot in any way solicit [paper payments] from a buyer." So, let me be clear, I am not, in any way, soliciting you to use any payment method other than PayPal, I am simply informing you (the buyer) of all of eBay's rules, which state that if you (the buyer) request a different payment option other than PayPal, I can accept it.
