Description: This lovely dinner plate is part of the Liberty Blue collection by Staffordshire. Each piece of china in this collection takes you on a journey through early American history with depictions of important scenes and national landmarks. The dinner plate transports one to the heart of Philadelphia, where the Second Continental Congress met and adopted the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776. It showcases the stately Independence Hall, which with its distinctive clock tower, stands as an enduring symbol of American freedom and democracy. Liberty Blue was first created in the mid-1970s to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Benjamin Franklin Federal Savings and Loan Bank. The bank commissioned Enoch Wedgwood & Co based in Staffordshire to create an exclusive dinnerware set for a new marketing promotion. The set would be used to incentivize new bank deposits and it would coincided with the 1976 American Bicentennial. The set was available exclusively through the bank until 1977, when the promotion ended. To meet ongoing demand for the coveted pattern, grocery stores in parts of the U.S. began to sell it. Stores typically carried various pieces from the Liberty Blue collection, allowing shoppers to purchase individual pieces to start their collections or expand their existing sets. The dinner plate measures approximately 9 7/8” in diameter. It has been well cared for and is in excellent vintage preowned condition with no chips, cracks, scratches or restorations. Because of age it is beginning to show some very fine crazing as would be expected but this does not distract visually or functionally.
