When war broke out, four brothers of the Daniel Hite family joined the ranks of the Confederate Army. The four Hite sons followed in this book - three of them died fighting with the Stonewall Brigade (in the 33rd Virginia Infantry). David was wounded at 2nd Manassas and captured at Gettysburg. He received paroled and then was killed at Winchester in September of 1864. William was wounded at 1st Manassas and died of typhoid fever in November of 1861. John died of wounds received at Gettysburg. ((David and John were likely wounded on the Second Day of the Battle of Gettysburg. The 33rd VA saw heavy action around Culp's Hill. The regiment lost twenty-three percent of the 236 men who fought at Gettysburg, killed, wounded, or missing.)) The lone survivor, Isaac Hite, was with Lee’s Body Guard. Their story is told in some eighty wartime letters plus a year’s diary by one of the brothers. The family material is supplemented with excerpts from unpublished diaries of other ”Page Grey” comrades.==================================================Thanks for Looking !!! ---------------------------------------------------------- Postage is free (within Continental US - others at cost) either by media mail or priority depending upon the final sale price of the items(s).
